Design a Deckchair Workshop & competition
Easter family fun
Looking for something to keep the kids occupied this Easter? Then why not pack a picnic, and head on down to the fishing area of Hastings Old Town where you and the whole family could take part in a Design a Deckchair Workshop.
The workshops take place between 11-15th April as part of a competition launched by the Stade Education project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
On Monday 11th April, Thursday 14th April and Friday 15th April there are workshops at 11am and 2pm for 5 – 8 year olds and their parents at the Blue Reef Aquarium in their specially designed education room. For a special one off offer of £7.95 one child and their accompanying adult can take part in an hour and half long professional artist led workshop together. All art materials are included and you will also get entry to the aquarium all day, so you can really make a day of it. There are only 12 slots available for each workshop, so booking is a good idea. Call Paul on 01424 444412 to book a slot.
On Tuesday 12th April Artist Peter Quinnell will be running two £1 workshops in his studio for 8 – 16 year olds and on Wednesday 13th April there will be £1 workshops for adults at 11am or 2pm. For any of these sessions, call Beatrice Rapley, Stade Education Officer to book: 01424 451167 brapley@hastings.gov.uk
All deckchair designs can be entered into the Stade Education Project’s ‘Design a Deckchair’ competition. Entries will form part of an exhibition and will be judged by Liz Gilmore, Director of the Jerwood, David Rhodes, Curator at the De La Warr, Cllr Trevor Webb and a public artist from Salisbury called David Ward.
The theme of the competition is the Stade – its culture, its environment and its heritage, so get down to the beach, have a ramble about and explore the museums to see what inspires your creative juices this Easter.
