We're not sure what it is about mid-October, but somehow this weekend is gearing up to be one of the busiest of the year. Honest! To prove it, here's five more East top tips (with a few honourable mentions squeezed in too).

JOSIE LONG: BE HONOURABLE, Venuu, Hastings. Fri 15th. £8.50

Brighton Comedy Festival's still rolling on - this weekend alone brings shows from Jimmy Carr, Jerry Sadowitz, Rich Hall, Stewart Francis, Isy Suttie, Greg Davies and more. It can be a bit pricey, but fortunately some of the comics have taken the chance to fit in smaller gigs around the region while they're down here - and tonight (Fri) the wonderful Josie Long (who scored an Edinburgh Comedy Awards nomination this year) heads up the coast to Hastings to take her Be Honourable show to Venuu. We're hoping she sticks around the Old Town for the rest of the weekend, 'cos it's Hastings Bonfire tomorrow (Sat), and you really don't want to miss that. If you're in town, keep an eye out for the suddenly-gone-mainstream John Bishop too - he's got a sold out show at the White Rock Theatre tonight.

DOOMSDAY, Concorde 2, Brighton. Fri 15th. £25.

Also, inevitably, sold out this weekend is 'Doomsday' at the Concorde 2 tonight (Fri). The city had been plastered with a clever 'Doomsday is coming' poster campaign for months, confusing many, but not the hip hop heads who recognised that metal face a mile off. Yes, MF Doom is finally out on his debut UK tour, after some 20 years of crazed and inspired albums. Doom has collaborated with artists as diverse as Gorillaz, Danger Mouse (as Danger Doom) and Madlib (as Madvillain), and numerous special guests are promised tonight. But, yeah, it's completely and utterly sold out... Hmm, so's Carl Barat at Coalition... Maybe you could try It's Jo & Danny's Jo Bartlett (The Hope, Brighton), Hank Wangford (Con Club, Lewes), City Of Ashes & Arivmia (The Gildredge, Eastbourne) or Pink Narcissus (The Tubman, Hastings) - all happening tonight - instead?

APPLE FESTIVAL, Middle Farm, Frile, nr Lewes. Sat 16 - Sun 17. £15 weekend pass / £10 per day.

Hands up who likes cider? Yep, it's time for Middle Farm's annual Apple Festival again, celebrating the apple harvest with two days of live music from the likes of Rory McLeod, Mountain Firework Company and (ha!) John Otway, plus plenty of morris dancing, family entertainment and, well, drinking... Mmm, fruity.

CORINNE BAILEY RAE, De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill. £19.50

The De La Warr's major autumn season brings internationally successful singer-songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae to Bexhill tonight, promoting her Mercury Music Prize nominated second album The Sea. Mercurys aside, anyone with a background in Leeds' riot grrrl scene (she fronted the long-forgotten indie-rock band Helen, and ended up signing to metal titans Roadrunner Records) is alright by us. Tonight's gig is gonna be a bit more sedate, of course, and none the worse for that. But if it's noise you're after this weekend, head over to Brighton on Sunday for either the Brighton Punk Alldayer at The Prince Albert (The Pirhanas! Peter & the Test Tube Babies!) or, even harder, the Colour Out Of Space show at the Westhill Hall (it will break your brain).

STUDIO 54, Towner Gallery, Eastbourne. Sat 16. £8.

As we reported yesterday, the Towner gallery's having a full New York disco makeover tomorrow night (Sat) for the fabulous Studio 54 tribute. Inspired by their current Robert Mapplethorpe exhibition, the night sees live music (Hatcham Social, Kovak), films and projections across all three floors, with DJ LA Knight playing classic Big Apple tracks. Studio 54 is an adults only event, but earlier in the day the Towner welcomes under 18s for this year's Access All Areas - a full programme of parkour, photography, fashion, music and turntable workshops inspired by the Mapplethorpe show.

So there you go - something for everyone. Enjoy yourselves!
