Cheer leading the way this November
Eastbourne welcomes British Cheerleading Association
Pompoms at the ready! A highlight of Eastbourne’s autumn conference season this year is sure to be when the British Cheerleading Association arrives for their Southern Classic Competition on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th November.
Giving Eastbourne its cheerleading debut, the Devonshire Park Centre will host 1,000 competitors while a further 2,000 spectators will look on with admiration and, of course, glee, before swelling the resort’s accommodation.
The two days consist of cheerleading competitions all day in hall one, with doors opening at 8:00am on Saturday and 9:00am on Sunday. Meanwhile, hall two focuses on dance, where spectators are welcomed from 10:15am on Saturday and 8:30am on Sunday.
This will be one of six major events to be held at the Devonshire Park Centre over October and November. A feat not lost on Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Spokesperson for Tourism, Neil Stanley, who hailed it as ‘great news for our accommodation providers and a welcome boost to the town’s economy’. With various events attracting 7,000 delegates over the two month period, we do see his point.
Eastbourne Conference Bureau has recently been shortlisted in the Business Tourism category for the Beautiful South Awards for Excellence 2010, and clearly not content with standing still, it already has 15 confirmed bookings to its name for next year.
The Bureau offers a free venue-finding service for a range of facilities in Eastbourne, of which the Devonshire Park Centre is just one. Among the other names it can boast, are the International Lawn Tennis Centre, an official Pre-2012 Training Camp, and its latest addition, Eastbourne Pier’s new Ocean Suite.
