Icelandic singer Jónsi brings an epic theatrical show to Brighton Dome next week, on his debut UK solo tour.

Tuesday’s concert promises ‘a major theatrical performance’, including, somehow, ‘wild animals, burning buildings, Biblical storms, gradual rejuvenation and ultimate redemption.’ There may be some exaggeration in the claims of the show’s designers, 59 Productions (real wild animals would play havoc with the Dome’s plush furnishings), but tastemaking review site Pitchfork have described it as ‘seriously epic’, so something out of the ordinary is guaranteed.

Jónsi’s band Sigur Rós rose to prominence in the UK whilst signed to Brighton’s own Fat Cat Records. After signing to EMI, their expansive post-rock sound unexpectedly crossed-over to the mainstream when their song Hoppípolla featured on trailers for the BBC’s Planet Earth series.

According to their website, Sigur Rós are now on hiatus while Jónsi promotes his solo album Go, and other members spend time with their families.

Melting Vinyl presents Jónsi at Brighton Dome, Tuesday September 14. Tickets cost £18.50
