Yes, we know it’s the Ultimate Big Brother final tonight! Here, however, are five more of the weekend’s highlights, hand-picked for your non-televisual entertainment.
MOUNTAIN FIREWORK COMPANY, UNDER GROUND THEATRE, EASTBOURNE. Fri 10. £8
Gareth McGahan’s beautiful, Belfast-via-Brighton folk-country group The Mountain Firework Company return to Eastbourne, for a special show at the intimate Under Ground Theatre.
SLICC, WHITE ROCK HOTEL, HASTINGS Fri 10. £5
St Leonards Improv Comedy Club finds a new regular home along the promenade, at Hastings’ White Rock Hotel. Guest headliner is Damian Kingsley, whose engaging storytelling has won him plaudits from fellow comics including Gina Yashere and Scott Capurro.
BRIGHTON & HOVE FOOD & DRINK FESTIVAL. Ongoing until Oct 7.
Brighton & Hove’s ever-growing annual Food Festival is running throughout the month, and into October. This weekend’s a big one in the festival’s calendar, with both the 2010 Live Food Show and Sabai Thai Festival in Pavilion Gardens, Mexican Independence Day celebrations in Jubilee Square, and the Tesco Wine Club Fair at the Brighton Centre, amongst dozens more culinary events.
DAVE CLARKE, CONCORDE 2, BRIGHTON. Sat 11. £7.50.
Black Box Techno welcome the baron of British techno and electro, Dave Clarke. The Concorde’s got a famously huge soundsystem, which will no doubt take a bit of a battering from Clarke tonight.
WILLKOMMEN FOXTROT, STANMER HOUSE, BRIGHTON. Sun 12. £20.
Brighton’s Willkommen Collective, with the help of Melting Vinyl, take over Stanmer House in Brighton’s gorgeous Stanmer Park, for their second annual Foxtrot. Recent Mercury Music Prize nominee Laura Marling is special guest headliner, joining the similarly folk-pop inclined likes of Shoreline, Sons Of Noel & Adrian, The Miserable Rich and more, for a full day of gentle live music.
