A cast of 64 young people, 20 different scenes and more costume changes to count would, at first glance, leave the audience dizzy and bewildered. And if it wasn’t for the skills of the directors and choreographers this production could have been a confusing attempt to get all their team on the stage. However, the company executed their song and dance routines to familiar hits from the original 1960s film with enthusiasm and soon had the audience clapping hands and tapping feet with their infectious and often humorous performances.
The principal characters had excellent voices and gave believable performances, akin to the original film whilst injecting their own personalities. It wasn’t quite professional but it was ‘am dram’ at its best – a bright, funny musical – and I loved it.
