To celebrate 75 years of the De La Warr, the gallery is inviting anyone to come to the Pavilion and help create a contemporary version of the famous photo which was printed in the Daily Mirror in 1936.
Turn up for 2pm on Bank Holiday Monday (August 30) and take your place on the balconies and in history.
The orginal photograph features The Daily Mirror Eight – a dance and fitness troupe sponsored by the Daily Mirror who used to tour seaside resorts and entertain the crowds. 1936 would be the first time that they would have performed at the Pavilion since its opening in December 1935. The 2010 performers will be parkour/free-running wizards the Urban Shadows.
After the photograph is taken (by photographer Sheila Burnett ), there will be performances by a “scratch” orchestra, choir and drumming troupe, made up of people who will have only met each other and rehearsed that morning. Musician and composer Mike Hatchard will lead the orchestra. Anyone who can bring their own instrument or sing can join in.
Contact Polly Gifford on polly.gifford@dlwp.com to register.
Participants get a cuppa, followed by dancing on the terrace to a compilation of tunes from the past 75 years.
