Anyone who took a dip in the sea this summer will be happy to hear that Eastbourne's bathing waters have received an 'Excellent' approval rating in the latest DEFRA league tables.

This indicates a rise in the quality of Eastbourne's seawater, after 2008's 'Good' rating.

The news reinforces the Quality Coast Award Eastbourne received earlier this year from Keep Britain Tidy, recognising the cleanliness of the beaches between the Wish Tower and Pier and at Holywell.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said, 'We are very pleased that Eastbourne’s beach water has been rated excellent this year. I’m sure the latest grading will continue to attract visitors to our award winning beaches throughout the year.'
