Richard Hawley, Kings Of Convenience and more for De La Warr
Bexhill's De La Warr Pavilion has announced more big name musical acts for the autumn, led by Mercury nominee Richard Hawley, and Norwegian duo Kings Of Convenience.
Richard Hawley had played guitar in The Longpigs and Pulp, before going solo in 2001, suprising critics and music fans with his classic songwriting and deep, crooner's voice. His 4th album Coles Corner was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2006, but lost out to fellow Sheffield act Arctic Monkeys, who Hawley has recorded with. He releases his 6th album Truelove's Glitter in September, and appears at the De La Warr on October 9, tickets £18.
Kings Of Convenience are a duo of Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe, from Bergen, Norway, who broke through internationally with their 2001 debut album Quiet Is The New Loud. Despite a slow workrate, the duo retain a loyal fanbase, with a highly anticipated 3rd album promised later this year. Kings Of Convenience come to the De La Warr on October 13, tickets £15.
Also coming up at the Pavilion are acclaimed London avant jazz quintet Polar Bear. The group's 2nd album Held On The Tips Of Fingers was another Mercury Prize nominee, and they reach the De La Warr on November 28, tickets £10.
The De La Warr's programme of free gigs also steps up a gear this summer, with a host of critically acclaimed musicians coming to Bexhill.
New Yorker Thomas Truax joins Sound Intermedia and Shelley Parker at the next Random Fridays multimedia evening, on July 17; rootsy Brighton band The Mountain Firework Company play an afternoon show on the bandstand on August 9; and the Bank Holiday Weekend sees both Fife's Fence Collective and Brighton's Willkommen Collective visiting the town.
The Fence Collective has previously launched King Creosote and James Yorkston into the public eye. On August 29, Fence will bring The Pictish Trail, The Olo Worms and Rozi Plain to the De La Warr.
An Ivor Novello nomination for the song Last Of The Melting Snow brought Willkommen Collective members The Leisure Society to prominence earlier this year. The Leisure Society will appear at the De La Warr on August 30, alongside Sons Of Noel And Adrian and The Miserable Rich.
