In the current issue of East, we highlight some of the region's hottest bands, as voted for by a panel of Industry insiders, and you the Readers.

East last ran this feature back in June 2007, with a Top 25 of the area's finest. But where are they now? We attempted to find out...

ADMIRAL SIR CLOUDESLEY SHOVELL
www.myspace.com/admiralsircloudsleyshovell
Genius Hastings sludge-rock trio, featuring members of Gorilla and Bronco Bullfrog. Still going strong. Endorsed by the mighty Julian Cope, who knows a thing or two. Probably playing Smugglers again soon.

BARRIER DUTCH
www.myspace.com/barrierdutch
Rural indie-folk outfit, most commonly spotted down The Rooms in St Leonards. Possessors of a fine line in badges. Currently recording their first full length album.

BY ALL MEANS CAPTAIN
www.myspace.com/byallmeanscaptain
The first of several bands on East's 2007 list who appear to have parted company. The duo's Joel Roberts (then also in Fracture) plays keyboards for capital, and records groups such as Data Select Party in his own studio.

CH3VY
www.myspace.com/ch3vyspace
Ch3vy's Si and Matt are both now in expanded funk collective Drawbar, who released the Gilles Peterson-approved Flight Of The Tempest album last year on Hastings' Counterpoint Records.

CHARLIE UNIFORM NOVEMBER TANGO
www.myspace.com/charlieuniformnovembertango
The highest-scoring band on East's 2007 list, Charlie Uniform played some exceptional gigs, split up in April, and then seemed to change their minds again. Alex and Dan also both play in P For Persia (sharing 5th place in East's Industry poll this year).

CHARLOTTEFIELD
www.myspace.com/charlottefield
Split last year, after the release of their second album What Are Friends For, on Brighton indie Fat Cat Records. Half the band are now in Blue House; while drummer Ashley Marlowe also plays in countless other Brighton avant-rock groups.

DATA SELECT PARTY
www.myspace.com/dataselectparty
Voted 4th by our Industry panel in the current poll, Data Select Party's mini-album Hanging Out With Humans is out now on London's Fear & Records. The band made a triumphant return to the area at Eastbourne Festival Live last month.

DAVID FORD
www.myspace.com/davidford
The former Easyworld singer turned politicised troubadour, much beloved of Word Magazine, is still touring internationally, as well as finding time for his annual Milk & Cookies hometown Xmas gigs. A third solo album should be due along soon, we think.

FLEEING FROM FINALES
www.myspace.com/fleeingfromfinales
The Bexhill lads had a very commercial punk-pop sound, but have gone their seperate ways. Frontman Sam Little has developed, via the band Clarkson, onto recording as Eat.Sleep.Attack - profiled in the current issue of East.

GORILLA
www.myspace.com/mygorillaspace
The stoner-rock heavyweights added Regular John's Malt Jones on drums, and continue to tour regularly throughout Europe. Two OTT wig-out albums are available, often on import from obscure continental labels.

KOLOBOS
www.myspace.com/kolobosmetal
Fearsome creators of such classics as Sacrificial Phil Mitchell Ritual, we don't know where Kolobos are now, and are frankly too scared to find out.

THE LATE GREATS
www.myspace.com/thelategreatsuk
Coming in at #2 in our current Industry poll, The Late Greats are back in the studio, preparing a follow-up to their well-received debut album Life Without Balloons. New single Destroy My Brain is all over the radio this month.

LOGAN WILSON
www.myspace.com/loganwilson
A flurry of Radio 2 interest gave the affable Logan an East cover appearance, and he's still recording and playing regularly in the region, solo or with members of the full Logan Wilson Band.

MISTER BROWN
www.myspace.com/misterbrown76
Stalwart of the acoustic scene, and occasional East columnist, Gavin Brown continues to perform around Eastbourne. His contributions to Bruce Harding's solo recordings were reviewed in East magazine in April.

MUMM-RA
www.myspace.com/mummra
Released a great debut album These Things Move In Threes for Columbia Records in 2007, but split up the following year. Noo and Tate have formed hotly-tipped electropoppers Mirrors, and play Brighton's Great Escape festival this month.

RUMIKO JR
www.myspace.com/rumikojr
Our Industry panel's #1 band in this year's poll, Rumiko Jr self-released their second album Haunting The Townsfolk this year. The fiercely independent group are currently setting up a new record label to take care of friends such as Hayley Savage, Regular John and Sand Rabbit.

SAILOR NO YOUTH
www.myspace.com/godsmightythumb
Another duo who parted company sometime after East's 2007 article. Lauren subsequently did a brief stint in rising 4AD stars The Big Pink, whilst Del is putting a new band together as you read this.

SUMMER BORN WILD
www.myspace.com/summerbornwild
The cheery Eastbourne indie-rockers were almost ubiquitous on the scene once upon a time. Their vanishing act would make Lord Lucan envious.

THE CRAYONS
www.myspace.com/thecrayons1
Occasional line-up shuffle aside, The Crayons continue to pursue their indiepop calling. Still gigging sporadically, they recently appeared at the successful Beatles Day event at White Rock.

THE JAMES CLEAVER QUINTET
www.myspace.com/thejcq
Bigger and bolder than before, The JCQ are currently on a national tour with Shapes, and readying the release of self-produced debut EP 10 Stages Of A Make-Up. Their peers unanimously pointed out East's error in omitting them from this year's list.

THE RIVERCLUB
www.myspace.com/theriverclub
Another band-most-likely-to, with national tours and a handful of EP releases under their belt, The Riverclub lost singer Dan Quanstrom to Data Select Party, and that appears to be that.

TIM HOYTE
www.myspace.com/timhoyte
Multi-instrumentalist Tim has several self-released albums available, and is a popular gigging musician in the area - he's playing Revolver on May 7 - as well as occasional guest-guitarist with Hayley Savage.

TYMON DOGG
www.myspace.com/tymondoggandthequikening
Tymon's been in the business for over 40 years, and 'The Godfather Of Antifolk' (as one fan-site decribes him) shows no sign of slowing down, supporting none-other than Pete Doherty in March. Original New York VJ Merrill Aldighieri has recently completed a documentary film on Tymon's life (trailer below).

YOUNGPLAN
www.myspace.com/youngplan
It's fair to say East-land super-group Youngplan haven't lived up to the expecations surrounding them back in 2007. Having passed through the ranks of almost every regional band of note, neither Gareth, Dale nor Jon are likely to be silent for long.

ZOE KONEZ
www.myspace.com/zoekonez
Another folky scene stalwart, Zoe's often found gigging around the area - she's at Bar-Celona (formerly Harpers) for their May 9 Live Lounge event, and up at the Black Horse Festival's Folk Day later in the month.

Thanks to Del Guapo and Lee from Noisepilots for their help with this feature.
