BBC loves East Land bands.
The region's bands are all over the nation's airwaves currently, with Acusis and Red.Was.Here joining their peers on BBC Radio this month.
As we reported last week, capital and The Late Greats are receiving strong support from the BBC, with The Late Greats adding Radio 2's Janice Long to their list of fans. Long has been playing the band's forthcoming single Destroy My Brain on her late night show regularly for the past month.
A listener's recommendation gave Bexhill rockers Red.Was.Here some unexpected airplay on Huw Stephens' Radio 1 show last week. Huw brodcast the band's The Beat Carries On on his From Me To Huw slot in the early hours of April 16. He welcomes listeners' suggestions, including mp3s, via email huw.stephens@bbc.co.uk. Red.Was.Here, meanwhile, are ready to release their new album (also called The Beat Carries On), and play the Young Bands Afternoon at the Black Horse Festival on May 25.
East helped get Acusis onto Radio 1's Steve Lamacq show on Monday, as part of our irregular series of contributions to his In New Music We Trust show. In his Steve's Stringers slot, Lamacq let us plug this weekend's Eastbourne Festival Live, and played Acusis' song Hey You. The band are headlining the Festival's Gold Room stage tomorrow night (May 24).
BBC Southern Counties radio also supports the region's musicians on its South Live show, every Sunday 7-9pm. Unsigned bands can send demo CDs into the show, with the best tracks broadcast and criticised on air. Up and coming band The Veloes featured on April 19, and they also play Eastbourne Festival's Gold Room tomorrow, in the finals of SDC Rocks.
