Countdown to Towner

Eastbourne's Towner Gallery holds its Grand Opening next month, but fast-fingered East readers have a chance to visit the building ahead of the big day.

The Towner has invited members of the public to create their own version of it's 'Folded T' logo out of whatever materials they wish. Email a small digital photo (less than 500kb) of yourself with your creation to towner@eastbourne.gov.uk - but be quick, the closing date for the competition is tomorrow (March 26). Make sure you put the word 'competition' in the email subject line, and include your name and address.

Towner representatives will pick their favourite 5 entries, and each winner plus a guest will be invited to the Gallery's pre-opening reception, on the evening of Friday April 3. There, winners will be able to mix with funders, supporters and representatives from the art world, whilst examining the building and artworks.

The Grand Opening of the Towner Gallery takes place the following day, Saturday April 4, at 10am. Mayor Cllr Greg Szanto will perform the opening ceremony.

To whet appetites for the Towner opening, East Magazine's April issue carries a bumper 5-page preview, with sculptor Iván Navarro's neon deckchair adorning the cover. The magazine hits the streets this Friday, March 28.
