Soundwave with Newton Faulkner
Lewes' Soundwave Festival returns in February, with celebrity patron Newton Faulkner encouraging young people to get involved in music-making and performance.
Soundwave 2009 takes place from February 13-22, with workshops and events for 11-18 year olds happening across Lewes, Newhaven and Peacehaven. The workshops cover many aspects of songwriting, playing and recording, whilst young local bands, dancers and street artists will be performing throughout the week.
Newton Faulkner , best known for his hits Dream Catch Me and a cover of Massive Attack's Teardrop, has had to postpone his scheduled tour after fracturing his wrist over Christmas. Although physically unable to perform, he can be heard on the festival's radio station Soundwave 87.8FM between February 20-22, discussing his influences and playing tracks from his record collection.
Talking about music, Faulkner says, 'There is no right and wrong way of playing, singing, writing or recording. You can make music with anything, guitars, sitars, computers, drum kits, even an old teapot... literally anything can be an instrument.'
