Green garden waste is to be collected free of charge.

The new service, due to start in early 2009, is being introduced by Eastbourne Borough Council and will provide a free, fortnightly collection of garden waste.

Residents who want the service have to ‘opt in’ by filling in the application form sent out recently. They can chose between a 180 litre wheeled bin or a 90 litre reusable sack.

The form should be returned to the Waste Awareness Team at 1 Grove road before Sunday August 31 or there will be a delay in receiving the service.

Eastbourne Council Spokesperson for the Environment, Cllr Steven Wallis said, ‘We are really pleased to be able to provide this free service to residents, particularly as it will improve on our current recycling rate.’

If residents have not received an application form they should contact the Waste Awareness team on 01323 415989
