Little Jonny and the Chadbolts - 26th October
Fresh back from Poland and looking like death Little Jonny and the Chadbolts proceed to ram Rock firmly down the throats of sleepy Willingdon.
Playing a pre Halloween gig the four guys are suitably attired, featuring a dead man walking and a pumpkin amongst others.
With a quiet start, mainly due to the fact the mike was too low, they soon get feet tapping and even Dennis, the resident dog seems excited.
Their in your face attitude means I can’t help thinking they are wasted in a venue such as this but they will defiantly kick start the Queens’ reputation as a live music venue.
Jon Searle, front man and lead singer throws himself (and several pints) into his performance, attaining impressively high notes on songs such as Day Tripper and Danny Bloomfield looks every inch the moody musician on guitar. The band is not all about image though as they cover a range of popular, through to less mainstream songs. Most cover bands you see either have a set artist/style they play to but Johnny and the Chadbolts can cover a range of styles from Lynyrd Skynyrd to The Rolling Stones. Not only do they pull them off but they even manage to place covers within covers, mixing with ‘Eye of the Tiger’ into ‘What Should We Do with the Drunken Sailor’, and believe me it worked a lot better than it sounds like it should!
All I can advise is that you check out the mag to keep updated on their next gig. I have a feeling they won’t stay quiet for long!
