The Government are planning up to 7500 new homes for the Eastbourne area over the next 20 years, as the town has been identified as a key part of the 'south east plan' of development in the region.

The Eastbourne Green Party are holding a public forum meeting tonight, and want to hear from as many groups and individuals as possible. There certainly is a lot to discuss, with the town centre regeneration plans set to be announced soon, 2000 proposed new houses in Polegate, and expansion plans at Sovereign Harbour all affecting local residents.

Principal spokesman Clive Gross said, 'Major decisions are about to be made which will have a huge impact on the development of our town over the next 20 years and it is vitally important that local people have an opportunity to influence them. We are about to enter a critical phase of the history of Eastbourne.'

The meeting is the first of many monthly open forums planned by the Greens on a range of vital issues in the area. The forum will be held at the Lamb Inn, High Street, Old Town, from 8pm tonight. Any groups wishing to get involved should contact the party through their website, www.eastbournegreenparty.org.uk.
