Town day-time drunks are on the look out for new places to sit after chiefs removed popular booze benches.
A town boss admitted, however, there was a chance the antisocial alcoholics would easily find replacements elsewhere.
Residents in Trinity Trees demanded the benches be taken away when the localised scourge of the drinkers became too much.
A Borough Council spokesman said the measures were to ‘deter street drinkers from hanging around’.
‘Local residents contacted the Council about the issue of people drinking in the street outside Trinity Trees Church,’ He added.
Councillor David Elkin said they had not taken the decision lightly. ‘We are aware it will move the issue to another part of the town,’ he admitted.

East Magazine says:
We’re at a loss. Laughing too much. Benny Hill style chase-the-bench sketches spring to mind. Perhaps the core issues are not being dealt with here? And isn’t their a powerful bylaw banning alcohol in place? Is this not the answer? It was certainly sold as such a few years ago.
